junior programs
Tri-City offers a variety of different programs for juniors of all ages and levels. Our Net Generation program is intended for players under 10 years of age, and features foam balls and orange-dot balls, both of which move slower and bounce lower, making it easier for young players to learn proper strokes and gain confidence with them. Our Junior Academy is geared towards kids 11 and older, and focuses on stroke production and basic match-play strategy. Through a variety of drills and games, players will be able to work on their game while having fun and learning the basics that will last a lifetime! Information on both these programs can be found on the right.
We also have an Elite Program, which is geared towards higher-level players who already have a firm grasp of the basics, including spins on groundstrokes and serves, directional control of their shots, and basic methods to set up points. Players in our Elite Program will focus on more advanced techniques and strategies, with the goal of becoming some of the top junior players in the area. In addition to these programs, we offer several match-play opportunities. Our Junior Shootouts take place on Saturday evenings. Each week, we open it up to players in lessons groups of specific levels. Players need to sign up through email ahead of time, and then get paired up in doubles matches, with an instructor going court to court to ensure the players are comfortable knowing how to play matches, along with rules, scoring, etc. Our Junior Shootouts are $10 per person, and are for members only. For more information, please email Andy. We also offer UTR match-play events nearly every week during the indoor season. With these events, players will be paired up with someone at their level, and will play a full singles match, with results counting towards a players UTR (Universal Tennis Rating). UTR has become the gold standard in tennis rating systems, and is widely accepted as a very accurate method of rating players; it is used in everything from club programming to college recruiting to make sure players are a good fit with others. These match-play events have proven highly successful in producing competitive matches, and are an invaluable part in the development of all junior players. To sign up, please contact Andy. We look forward to providing a safe, fun experience on the court for all players this winter. Tennis is a great sport for so many reasons, especially in the current climate, and we appreciate the opportunity to share our enthusiasm and knowledge of tennis with the next generation of players! |
Please note, Junior Club Membership is required for participation in our 10U Red and Orange ball clinics, our Junior Academy clinics, and Junior Shootout.
Additional membership benefits include reduced rates on court time and vacation/holiday camps.
Net Generation / 10U: This format, intended for beginners from 4-10 years old, uses smaller courts and unique balls which won’t bounce as high or travel as fast. This innovative approach will facilitate proper techniques and make it much easier for young kids to grow into the game.
Junior Academy: During the school year, we offer lesson groups Mondays through Fridays after school, and also on Saturdays. These groups are offered for players of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced players. Emphasis is placed on both mechanics and strategies, utilizing a number of drills and games during each lesson.
Elite Program: Designed for tournament players, as well as those on their school’s JV and varsity teams, this program pushes the kids harder than our normal junior academy. We expect that players in this program have a solid fundamental background, and therefore we focus more on strategies and execution than mechanics. Players are expected to take their game seriously, and work hard to improve. While instructors will lead the drills and games during the groups, players must take responsibility for their game themselves. Groups are offered after school during the week, and also on Saturday afternoons. All groups require a minimum UTR rating to participate.
Junior Shootout: This program allows junior members to play matches against their peers in an informal setting. Instructors will be going from court to court to make sure players know the rules, scoring, proper court positioning, etc. The goal with this program is to get players comfortable with match-play, before they join anything more official where they'll be on court on their own. We'll be offering Shootouts for different levels each week. Each Junior Shootout runs from 5:30-7:00PM on Saturday evenings, and costs $10 per player.
Vacation/Holiday Camps: Tri-City Fitness junior holiday and school break camps are open to kids from the ages of 5-16, across all ability levels. Each day, the players are split up into groups by ability. Campers are engaged in drills and fun games geared toward their level throughout the course of the program.
Summer Camp: Our Summer Camp program is open for kids from the ages of 5-16 at all skill levels. Camp is split in to morning and afternoon sessions. Players can choose between either session or they can participate in our full day program.
